Edible landscaping is exactly what it sounds like – landscaping with edible plants. In edible landscaping, you use the entire yard as your canvas. Instead of thinking about just a vegetable garden in the traditional way of a dedicated space filled with perfect rows of veggies, try thinking of integrating edible plants right into your home’s landscaping design.
Edible landscaping challenges you to think outside the box and to show your ingenuity by working with the space that you have. By doing this, you are providing a more diverse habitat for wildlife and pollinators, providing food for your family, and adding beautiful color and texture to your yard.
The goal in edible landscaping is that every plant that is put in the ground has a dual purpose. By having this mindset, everyone can plant something no matter the size of your yard!
I have put together a quick overview guide of what creating an edible landscape would like look in the Boise area (Zone 6b). My hope is that it gets you thinking and inspired to take your garden – wherever that may be – to the next level.
